GYMPA # Time Well Spent embodies a philosophy and a space designed for effective and knowledgeable physical fitness development and maintenance. Here, a fresh approach to engaging and healthy physical fitness activities is utilized.
The interior design of the family sports center, which includes fitness design, was completed within a 2-month period. The space is segmented into various zones: 5 sports halls for classes, a waiting area, changing rooms, a coach's room, a doctor's office, a spa and massage area, a children's playroom for preschoolers, a manicure salon, and other service areas. The agile design philosophy, commonly found in modern office interiors, has been adapted for this fitness center. The waiting area can be utilized as a coworking space or a meeting spot. When bringing an older child to classes, the younger one can play with an animator in the children's room, while the parent or accompanying adult can exercise, get a manicure, or relax with a massage.
The interior design project follows a Scandinavian minimalist style, incorporating optical art (optical illusion) and vibrant colors from the brand book, which was developed simultaneously with the interior design. Optical illusion is utilized in the open wardrobe, which acts as an art object in the waiting area. Other notable art objects include the reception desk, crafted from a solid beam, the podium and "brother" sofas in the waiting area, as well as the tree-shelf in the children's room for preschoolers. All furniture items, down to the trash bins, were custom-made in a workshop according to individual designs by interior designer Ekaterina Proskurina.
This fitness interior design project, executed in a Scandinavian style, also embodies the Swedish philosophy of "lagom", which means "just the right amount", "not too much and not too little", "balance". In a broader sense, it implies living in harmony with oneself and the world, where there is no need for excess, but rather a focus on finding the golden mean. This can relate to nutrition, clothing, interior design, lifestyle, and many other aspects of life. In the modern world, "lagom" is becoming an increasingly popular concept, especially in line with the trend towards sustainability and an eco-friendly lifestyle.

Here are five principles that can help describe the philosophy of lagom:
Moderation: Lagom encourages us to be moderate in all things, avoiding excess and refraining from extreme behaviors that can lead to overload and stress. This philosophy teaches us to live within our means, without chasing after unattainable or unrealistic goals.
Balance: Lagom urges us to seek balance in life, finding equilibrium between various aspects of our existence, such as work, personal time, and self-care.
Respect for the Environment: Lagom brings an ecological component into our lives, teaching us to respect the environment and use only what we truly need, without abusing resources.
Happiness and Pleasure: Lagom helps us find joy and pleasure in simple things, appreciating what we have, rather than what we desire. This makes our lives richer and more joyful.
Simplicity: Lagom teaches us to find beauty in simplicity and to simplify our lives, making them less complicated. We can find joy in simple things, such as nature walks, reading books, or breathing fresh air.
All five of these principles are evident in the interior design of the GYMPA family sports center.

Lagom is manifested in interior design through minimalism and functionality. A defining feature of lagom-style interiors is the use of natural materials such as wood, stone, linen, and cotton.
The color palette of such interiors is typically neutral, including shades of white, gray, brown, and beige, sometimes with bright accents. Lagom interiors usually lack excessive decorative elements, but those present should be of high quality and functional.
Lagom interiors are characterized by simple lines and geometric shapes, simplicity, and conciseness. Interior items should be comfortable and functional, harmoniously fitting into the overall design concept.
Light plays a significant role in lagom interiors. Lighting should be soft yet effective to create a cozy and comfortable atmosphere. Windows should be large to provide natural light to the space.
An important element of lagom interior design is also comfortable furniture that adheres to the principles of functionality and minimalism. Furniture should be simple and comfortable, made from natural materials. It should not only decorate but also satisfy the user's needs and comfort.

The design of the family sports center took us 2 months. The space is divided into areas for activities, including 5 sports halls, a waiting area, changing rooms, a trainer's room, a doctor's office, a spa and massage area, a children's playroom, a manicure room, and other service rooms. The philosophy of modern agile office interiors is adapted here for a fitness center. The waiting area can also be used as a coworking space or a meeting place. While the older child attends classes, the younger one can play in the children's room with an animator, while the parent or companion can attend classes, have a manicure, or enjoy a massage.
The interior is designed in the style of Scandinavian minimalism with the incorporation of optical art and vibrant colors from the brand book, which was created alongside the interior design. Optical illusion is applied in the open wardrobe, which serves as an art object in the waiting area. Attention is drawn to art objects such as the reception desk, which appears to be made of massive timber, the podium, the "brothers" sofas in the waiting area, and the tree-shaped shelf in the children's room. All furniture, including trash cans, is custom-made by Ekaterina Proskurina, the interior designer.
The Scandinavian style and "lagom" philosophy can be considered a holistic approach. "Lagom" is a Swedish word that means "sufficient," "not too much or too little," and "balance." It is a concept of living in harmony with oneself and the surrounding world, avoiding excesses and finding the golden mean. It applies to various aspects of life, including food, clothing, interiors, lifestyle, and more. In the modern world, "lagom" is becoming increasingly popular, especially in relation to sustainability and an ecological way of life.
Scandinavian Style and the Philosophy of "Lagom"
The Scandinavian style can be seen as a whole philosophy. When we think about the geographical origin of the style, we can recall the philosophy of "lagom." The interior in Scandinavian style perfectly embodies the philosophy of "lagom."
So, what does "lagom" mean? "Lagom" is a word that originates from the Swedish language and signifies "an adequate amount," "not too much or too little," and "balance." In a broader sense, it is a concept that entails living in harmony with oneself and the surrounding world, where there is no need to overdo or underdo anything but to find the golden middle ground. This can apply to food, clothing, interior design, lifestyle, and many other aspects of life. In the modern world, "lagom" is becoming an increasingly popular concept, especially in relation to sustainability and an eco-friendly way of living.
To see "lagom" in interior design, it is primarily expressed through minimalism and functionality. One of the key features of "lagom" style interior design is the use of natural materials such as wood, stone, linen, and cotton.
The color palette of such an interior is usually quite neutral, consisting of shades of white, gray, brown, and beige, but it can be complemented with vibrant accents. In a "lagom" interior, there shouldn't be an excessive number of decorative elements, but whatever is present should be of high quality and functionality.
Clean lines and geometric shapes are characteristic of "lagom" interiors, emphasizing simplicity and conciseness. Interior items should be convenient and functional, while harmoniously fitting into the overall design concept.
Lighting also plays an important role in a "lagom" interior. The lighting should be soft yet effective, creating a cozy and comfortable atmosphere. Windows in a "lagom" interior should be sufficiently large to allow natural light into the room.
Comfortable furniture is another essential element of a "lagom" interior. It should align with the principles of functionality and minimalism. The furniture should be simple, comfortable, and made from natural materials. It should not only serve as decoration but also meet the needs and provide comfort to users.
