4 Rules for Choosing a Location for a Restaurant, Cafe, Bar

When opening a restaurant, the concept and location selection that aligns with that concept are particularly important factors. How can you determine if a space is suitable for opening a cafe, bar, or restaurant?

Here are a few key factors to consider:

Presence of two or more exits

When organizing a foodservice establishment, it is important to separate the flow of visitors, staff, and product deliveries. If possible, a waste disposal and goods delivery schedule should be established. According to fire safety regulations, a restaurant hall should have two or more exits if there are more than 25 people present simultaneously.

High ceilings

Various cooking technologies may require specific temperature and humidity conditions. Engineering systems provide comfortable conditions for visitors and staff while also removing kitchen odors from the restaurant hall. In restaurants with open kitchens, it is important to consider that kitchen odors may spread to the dining area and negatively affect the restaurant's atmosphere. When installing engineering systems, it is necessary to take into account that they occupy a certain space, which may reduce the height of the premises. If there are load-bearing beams in the space, the ceiling height is calculated from the floor to the bottom of these beams.
High ceilings can be both practical and aesthetically pleasing. In restaurants, cafes, and bars, the atmosphere created by interior design is important. High ceilings allow for unique lighting solutions, the hanging of chandeliers or artistic objects that can attract visitors' attention.

Dependence on needs: electricity in the restaurant

The amount of electricity required for your restaurant depends on the establishment's concept and the type of food you plan to prepare. It also depends on whether you will have a full kitchen or if the dishes will be brought in ready-made or partially prepared. If you are involved in baking, it is important to consider whether you will use frozen ingredients or make the dough from scratch. All of this affects the amount and placement of equipment in the kitchen.
To determine the exact amount of electricity needed for your restaurant, it is important to correctly position the technological equipment. In addition to that, electricity is consumed for lighting, ventilation with air conditioning, water heating boilers, and electric convectors for heating if you do not have a water heating system.
If you want to increase the power consumption, you can consult with local authorities, but this will require time and additional costs that will fall on you.

Ventilation is also important to consider

The installation of engineering systems, including ventilation systems, can be one of the most costly items in commercial renovation. If your restaurant is located on the ground floor of a residential building, you will need to install a separate ventilation system and obtain the consent of the residents. This also requires time and material costs. It is best to look for a space where technological ventilation is already installed.
